Is that a Heartbeat, I hear?

Yes, it is! And it isn't mine!
Adam and I are proud to announce we are expecting our first bundle of joy! We are sooooo excited to become parents! Our little one is due November 8th, and I am 13 weeks along. We've known for a couple of months now but decided to keep it hush-hush until I was further along. We went to the doctor today and heard the heartbeat for the first time via doppler, so I figured it would be a good time to start spreading our joyous news!

This will be the first grandchild for my parents, and the fifth grandchild for Adam's parents.

We first told our families on Easter Sunday. Adam and I made a pop-up card for my mom (see the crazy thing below.) It took her a couple of seconds until she realized what the card said. She screamed her head off! She is so excited to become a grandma! My dad is also excited to be a grandpa (even though he currently has a 2-year old of his own.) Catie and Meredith are thrilled to become aunts, and Chris is equally looking forward to becoming an uncle. Adam's parents weren't very surprised. They supposedly saw it coming. They're very happy, too, of course.

Since spilling the beans, the most frequently asked question I get is "How are you feeling?" I feel pretty good most of the time. I had a rough time during weeks 5 and 6, and right now my gag reflex is something else...especially when I'm brushing my teeth! It's all worth it, though. :)

Is it tacky to post pregnancy tests? Oh well!

My New Hair-Did

It's been almost a year since I got my last haircut, so I thought I'd chop it off again. I went for a bob this time. I really like it, and it's so easy to fix in the morning.
What do you think?

Before

After!

Fairy Princess Jasmine

I caught Jasmine in this cute little fairy costume yesterday. She usually doesn't like her picture taken. But this time I told her to say "Cheese!" and she did! What a silly little girl.

Sleepy Little Fairy Princess

Natural Science Center

Adam and I went to the Natural Science Center in Greensboro last Saturday. We hadn't been since the new zoo area opened. They have some pretty cool monkeys, tigers, and wallabees now. They also added some maned wolves (although we couldn't see them), and next month they'll be adding an anteater. The other animals are pretty much the same. All of the stuff on the inside is either the same or rundown, except there is a new Omnisphere/Planetarium type thing. We didn't check it out, though...it's an extra $5 per show.
We'll go again sometime soon with Jasmine. I think she'll love it!

This was the first thing we saw. So pretty!

Showing off for the not-so-pretty female.
Same ol' miniature horses.

Alpacas...I thought the white one looked angelic.

Adam and I milked a fake cow...how fun.

Wallabees

Male Tiger

A Lemur of some kind.

Ringtailed Lemur

Meerkat..so cute!

Gibbon Monkeys...We were fortunate enough to hear one of them howling. Check it out below!

More monkeys.

I couldn't get a good shot of this porcupine, so I took some footage. I think he's pretty cool.

Same ol' dinosaurs as before.

Uncle Adam and Aunt Allison

Our sweet nephew Bryce visited us last weekend. He's gotten so big! He's also quite the smiler. We love you, Brycie!

Happy Birthday to Me!

Yes, today is my birthday. I can't believe I'm 28 years old. My 10-year high school reunion is coming up in September. That's insane! Old, old, old....

Adam made chocolate cupcakes with chocolate frosting for me to take to work today. He also made my delicious chocolate ice cream cake. He's the greatest :) For dinner, he took me to the Texas Roadhouse in Winston-Salem. One of my coworkers kept telling me about it, so I decided to give it a shot. It was really good, and the prices were, too! We took home more than we ate, which isn't a bad thing. Once we got home, I opened my gifts from him (one of which being some awesome Eeyore PJs!) and had birthday cake. It was a pretty good birthday, if I do say so myself. No complaints here!

The Crud

So Adam and I have come down with a case of the "crud," as I've heard so many others call it. We've had a cold for the past few days. Adam got it first, and I started feeling badly soon after. I missed an entire day of work on Thursday, went in Friday to do payroll and other things, and went back home at noon. Adam hasn't missed any work. He doesn't like to take sick days. I don't know how he does it! He had Wednesday and Saturday nights off, so that probably helped him out some. We didn't leave the house all weekend. I'm still not feeling too swell...hacking up a lung every now and then. But alas, I must go to work tomorrow. Hopefully I'll feel better by then.

Apparently Catie's dog Jake came down with the crud, too. Mom and Chris took him to the emergency vet this evening. He hasn't been eating. He's been drinking, but he ends up throwing up his water. He was very weak. Mom called me a few minutes ago. Turns out Jake has diabetes! However, that doesn't mean he's diabetic....I'm a little lost on that one. Right now he has pancreatitis, which is what my cat Tippy had when I took him to the emergency vet a few years ago. He ended up having pancreatic cancer and had to be put to sleep, but I don't think that's going to happen with Jake. He has to stay overnight at the emergency vet's office, but then my mom has to pick him up at 7:30 a.m. and take him to his regular vet. They'll have to keep him for a few days. He has to have an IV and all sorts of tests done. Hopefully he'll be okie dokie!

Keep Scrolling...

So once again I haven't posted anything in nearly a month. Keep scrolling to see how I made up for it (all of the posts in February are new.)

Enjoy!

Great Weekend!

This weekend, Adam had Friday and Saturday nights off of work. I love it when that happens! We get to spend so much time together, and it's just great. Friday we went to Walmart, which I thoroughly enjoy. Afterwards we played "Are You Smarter than a Fifth Grader?" I've only watched the show once. Adam thought it would be the perfect game for me...hardy har har. I did beat him, though, so it was all good.

Saturday we went to lunch with Meredith at a place called Amalfi's. We had pizza with meatballs and mushrooms...yum! We then dropped her off at mom's house and went to Adam's parents' house. The civic got new wiper blades and some more power steering fluid. It was making this horrible noise everytime I turned. Hopefully the problem was fixed. We watched "Les Miserables." I had never seen it or read it before, and I thought it was pretty good. After eating some soup, we got on an internet conference with Jason, Sabrina, and Bryce. It's hard to visit them and them us when the gas is so expensive, so the internet was the next best thing. Little Brycie is about 10 pounds now, and I think he looks just like Sabrina. We then played "Are You Smarter than a Fifth Grader?" again, and Adam and I found out we aren't. We went home. Adam went straight to bed, and I looked over my church talk I'd prepared over a month ago.

Yes, that's right, the day finally came for me to give my talk about prayer. I spoke with two youth speakers and a guy who's about to leave on his mission. I imagine most of the people in the congregation thought I was also a youth speaker until I said I've been married for nearly five years. I was going to make a joke about being the oldest speaker and yet being the shortest speaker, but I didn't. I was so nervous. Everyone said I did well, but I really don't think I did. I just felt like a bumbling idiot. I'm guessing no one else noticed? Maybe I did do ok. I'm just glad it's finally over with! Church was smooth sailing after that. Adam and I received church callings, but I cannot reveal them yet. I'll let you know next week. We watched "Labyrinth" this afternoon. I got it for Adam for Valentine's Day. It's so weird! David Bowie is so creepy! I remember watching it in art class while I was in middle school. I have no idea why! Maybe because of the artsyness?

And now I'm finally updating my blog. I'll try to do it more often.

Jake the Great

A few weeks ago my dad glanced out the back window and said "Jake's in the tree!" The first thought that came to my mind was that Jake was hanging in the tree...not good! But no, he was actually chillin' in the tree. How cute! And, what a relief!
